For two years an orange and white cat roamed without a home before animal control found him & took him to the Exploits Valley SPCA. He arrived with frostbite & fleas but he was safe at last. The cat remained friendly through his hardships and welcomed human touch. Nobody claimed him so the shelter made him available for adoption and called him Chatman because he enjoyed making vocal sounds. Staff members said he was very friendly & disliked being in a cage.

Chatman received treatment for his flea infestation and started recovering from frostbite damage. This was probably his first experience living peacefully alongside other cats. The shelter staff placed him in a shared room with other felines instead of keeping him isolated in a kennel. The medication quickly eliminated his flea problem. His aggressive behavior disappeared after he was neutered. Although frostbite caused him to lose part of one ear tip he seems to wear this battle scar with pride as if it adds to his rugged appearance.

Every day Chatman waited for someone to walk into the room and fall in love with him so they could take him home. Whenever staff or volunteers stopped by he turned on the charm by posing with his handsome good looks and offering snuggles while pressing his face into theirs for affection. That same month a local business owner brought him home and made Chatman their mascot. He moved right in and quickly began running the show.

Over time his adventurous spirit for the outdoors grew & he made it clear that he would not be contained. They had trouble keeping him from exploring so he was often out on the trot and made a name for himself around the town. Eventually he wandered onto a nearby farm. Surrounded by other cats his old tomcat instincts resurfaced and pushed him to defend his territory.

Recognizing this wasn’t the life Chatman was meant to live he was brought back to the loving arms of the SPCA. He returned with hugs to give everyone as if he was a long-lost friend back for a visit. The staff believed the perfect home was still out there for him. Maybe someone with a massive catio or another idea would be right. We want the best for Chatman and that includes his happiness.

He’s the most lovable cat. He loves giving hugs & chatting. He just needs the perfect setup for a happily ever after. For some time it appeared that Chatman was pursuing constant adventure while the shelter made continuous efforts to discover an arrangement that would maintain his happiness and safety. Eventually it became apparent that his real desire was finding the proper bond. He was looking for his person.

After spending many years as a social butterfly he has now completely fallen in love with his new position as the boy’s closest companion. Sullivan informed his parents that he hoped to receive monster trucks and an orange cat as Christmas presents. His parents started searching for a cat with a friendly personality. Chatman became available for adoption at that time. The family read through his description and felt confident he would integrate well into their household.

Chatman got a new name called Rocket and became best friends with his little human right away. He walked behind him through every room in the house. Rocket gave him lots of cuddles and lay next to him on the couch and bed. He also watched over him like a loyal guard. It became clear that Rocket was not looking for adventure at all. He had been looking for his little human the whole time. When he finally found him he knew he was home.

Santa arrived ahead of schedule and brought our little boy his orange kitten for Christmas. The cat has become a wonderful part of our family and we could not have hoped for a better companion. He truly is our Christmas miracle.
