A cat wandered through a neighborhood for years & lived on whatever food he could find and any shelter available. Eventually he stopped moving around and made a spot under a tarp his permanent residence.

His appearance showed the hard life he had lived. He was thin and his fur was badly matted from years without anyone looking after him. But his personality stayed kind and calm. His eyes showed he had lived through a lot and he seemed ready to stop living on the streets.
Cat Arrives at a Rescue With Her Kittens, Now Hoping for Her Own Happily Ever After This Christmas

The Stray Cat Club learned about him and decided to help right away. After spending several winters outside and moving between different yards the cat was given the name Dumbledore & finally got the medical attention he needed.

The rescue group thanked their veterinarians for providing immediate help. This winter brought a change. Dumbledore would no longer sleep under a tarp but would instead live in a warm home.

Dumbledore got a haircut to remove all the matted fur. Once the mats were gone he could move around easily and rest comfortably. He looked a bit bare but felt much better. Nobody came to claim him but Dumbledore adapted well to living indoors. At the veterinary clinic Dumbledore was friendly with everyone.

When staff members walked past his kennel he would stand up and push against the door as if showing appreciation for their care. The vet determined he was a healthy senior cat whose real condition had been hidden under all that matted fur. A foster home took Dumbledore in and he quickly settled into the new environment.

He looked for attention from his foster family & enjoyed being petted. He had some arthritis but was otherwise healthy and turned out to be an excellent houseguest. He might not play much anymore but he shows a lot of affection. Dumbledore likes sleeping in bed with his people and purrs loudly while kneading with his paws.
Man Spots a Kitten Near the Woods, Brings Him to Safety, but the Young Cat Stays on His Mind

When he wants attention he lets everyone know by meowingย loudly. His fur grew back and he started looking much better. Dumbledore enjoys being around people and wants to stay close to them throughout the day.

He makes chirping sounds and purrs when greeting people. He may not act like a young cat but he gives complete affection and always wants to cuddle. After his difficult past he needs a calm home where he can spend his senior years in comfort.

A family read about him and decided to adopt him. They brought Dumbledore home & renamed him Gilbert. He adjusted immediately & found his favorite spots including places next to his new family. He enjoys his new home which is decorated with Christmas lights and holiday decorations.

The rescue group finds it rewarding to see cats who arrived frightened or sick now living happily with families. From the beginning he had a good temperament but now his entire life has changed. That outcome makes all the rescue work worthwhile.
