A man found a kitten near the woods and took him to safety. However he kept thinking about the young cat afterward. The man saw a small tabby hanging around an apartment complex close to the woods. The kitten was completely alone and searched for food scraps near a dumpster while trying to survive. The man decided he needed help and contacted his daughter Sarah. She worked as a foster volunteer with Sparkle Cat Rescue. The kitten was scared & ran away whenever people came near. Sarah explained to Love Meow that they needed to gain his trust slowly & use a humane trap to catch him. They went back to the same location for almost eight days. Each time they brought food and worked on building trust with the kitten.

Each day Sarah’s dad tried a different method to save the kitten while he waited and watched from far away. The kitten became very frightened when he entered the trap but the full can of food inside quickly grabbed his attention. The tabby felt scared and uncertain as he pressed himself into the corner of the carrier. Behind his wide eyes was a sweet nature that wanted affection and care.

Once they brought him to a secure location Sarah could examine him properly. He was tiny & clearly starving but luckily there were no serious health problems that she could see. When the kitten they called Mackerel or Mack for short sat down on Sarah’s lap his fear started to fade. He appeared to realize for the first time that he did not need to struggle anymore. Covered in a warm blanket and comforted by Sarah holding him close he started purring loudly.

He received his own protected area that included toys along with soft blankets and an abundance of food. His adjustment to living indoors happened almost right away but he remained very wary of loud sounds or quick movements. Because of this we concentrated on building more trust & getting him used to being handled. Sarah provided Mack with a snuggle toy and he positioned himself underneath it like he was being held in a soothing hug.

With good food comfortable beds and plenty of love, Mack really thrived & ran through the house with lots of energy. His favorite things are chasing the laser toy, climbing his cat tree and watching birds through the window. Sarah fostered Mack because she wanted to help him find a forever home. Her dad thought about him every single day though.

My dad was so protective of this little kitten. He feared for him being out there alone in the wild. Every day he tried to figure out how he would capture him. While I was fostering he checked in every morning and every night to see how he was doing. The feeling was mutual. Mack greeted Sarah’s dad with loud purrs and affectionate snuggles and gave him the warmest welcomes.

Mack became friends with the tabby cat who lived in the house. They would lie together on the couch and fall asleep next to each other. Stephanie Grantham runs Sparkle Cat Rescue and she said that Mack used to be shy but now he acts silly & playful. She explained that he is both sweet & funny at the same time. Sarah had been fostering Mack for several months and kept thinking about when someone would adopt him. She did not realize that she was actually the right family for him the whole time.

Sarah’s dad kept coming back to see Mack and hang out with him until one day it hit him that life without the kitten just didn’t make sense anymore. Mack had already become part of the family. He went from being a temporary foster cat to living like absolute royalty in his new home. These days Mack shadows his human from room to room & has decided that every single piece of furniture in the house belongs to him.
He rules the house at my dad’s place and even has his own special chair. Mack used to be a scared little kitten struggling to stay alive near the forest. Now he lives the wonderful life he always deserved.
